Mr. McKiernan is an experienced trial lawyer who has tried numerous cases before juries in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He has appeared a number of times before the Rhode Island Supreme Court to argue matters on appeal. He is admitted to practice in both federal and state courts. He is also an experienced business attorney, having represented numerous businesses including car dealers, contractors, developers, commercial landlords, pub and restaurant owners, professional practices, retail establishments and other types of small businesses.
Mr. McKiernan is a lifelong Rhode Islander. He grew up in Warwick, Rhode Island. He graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School in 1984. He attended Boston College, graduating with honors with a degree in economics in 1988. He graduated from Boston College Law school in 1991. He was a clerk to the Rhode Island State Superior Court, Rhode Island’s busiest trial court, after graduating law school. Since graduation, he has held a number of legal positions, including positions with a national insurance company and several large firms. All of these positions contributed to his base of knowledge and understanding. They also provided experience litigating medical malpractice actions, catastrophic injury cases, wrongful death cases, motor vehicle accident cases, and business and contract disputes. They have also provided him with expertise in business and corporate deals.
Mr. McKiernan married his college sweetheart, Christina, and they live in Providence with their two children. Mr. McKiernan has served the community in a variety of functions. He was a lector at his parish church, a hockey coach, and a little league coach. He has served on the Boards of various local nonprofit agencies. He has provided lectures to members of the Rhode Island bar on issues involving insurance coverage and uninsured motorist coverage, as well as maritime torts. He has provided civic lectures to members of the public on the U.S. Constitution.
Mr. McKiernan is a member of the American Bar Association, the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Maritime Law Association and the Rhode Island Association for Justice.
