Business Advising
We are a small business law firm and we engage in business advising throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts. Our understanding and wisdom in the area of business advising derives from both legal and practical experience. We represent first time entrepreneurs as well as experienced, sophisticated business persons. When we provide legal advice to a business client, we recognize that each client has specific needs. Thus, our first role as a business advisor is that of an interested and insightful interviewer. We get to know each client’s needs in an easy and efficient manner. We take a “whole client” approach. We will ask our client important questions to assist the client in understanding and “seeing” all of the relevant issues that may impact a new RI business. As a matter of policy, we encourage social connections with our business clients and cultivate relationships with clients which allow a deep level of familiarity and trust.
As a result, number of business persons consider us their general counsel. We continually work to keep their trust. Simply stated, we do not offer to fix things that aren’t broken. We are able to generally handle most of the legal needs of our business clients. However, issues sometimes arise which require highly specialized expertise. If a client has a legal need which requires specialized expertise, it is our policy to assist our clients in finding an appropriate attorney and then to facilitate communications between our client and the specialist. We do not charge our existing clients for this type of service.
To the extent appropriate, we can assist the client in obtaining contacts with appropriate resources, such as banks, accounting professionals, or any other number of services that might be needed by the new business person.
Over the years, we have provided counsel to a number of local businesses engaged in a number of different areas. Our stable of current and former Rhode Island and Massachusetts business clients includes restaurants and pubs, car dealers, contractors, developers, commercial landlords, maritime service providers, landowners, medical practices, health care providers, local banks, entrepreneurs, factories and supply houses.
